Description: The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) recognizes the seriousness of food insecurity on college campuses. The VISTA is responsible for assisting the four pantries in providing better service, expanding service and facilitating improved communications between the sites. The VISTA also is the College wide liaison between external service providers and the pantries.

Description: The VISTA will support the development of organizational infrastructure through the development and implementation of recruitment and training to establish the Ambassador Corps, the creation and distribution of multiple language promotional collateral to increase communication with the refugee community, and support the development of community partnerships with market management to build support for market activities and programs. The end result of this project will be increased foot traffic to the Public Market sessions, increased sales for participating market vendors, an established corps of dedicated and trained community volunteers, increased partner participation to support the market and an overall increase in consumption of fresh local foods by community consumers.

Description: The VISTA member will coordinate new programming such as adult swimming classes, soccer clinics for children and adults, nutritional workshops and culinary lessons as well as increase participation and awareness in
the existing Walking Club and Healthy Options programs. The VISTA member will collaborate with health agencies to host an annual Latino Health Fair and compile health resources and community resource calendars in accessible (bilingual) formats.

Description: The Food Security Project (FSP) campus-community partnership is an effort to directly address hunger among the Ithaca College community (students, staff, and contingent faculty), residents in the rural areas outside of Ithaca, and low-income residents within the City of Ithaca. The FSP VISTA will work directly with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, the IC food pantry, and other hunger/nutrition efforts on campus and in the Ithaca community, while also working to collect, catalogue, and disseminate resources and best practices around food security to higher ed institutions across NY and PA.

The VISTA will work to build the capacity of this population health partnership between the hospital, Juniata College, and the community with a specific focus on the ACHIEVE (Advancing Community Health Innovation through Education, Vision, and Empowerment) health literacy program.

Consequently, the focus of this VISTA position will be to collaborate with community mental health service providers and community organizations to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the current mental health needs and services in the county. Huntingdon County is a geographically large, low population density area with a significant rate of generational poverty among its residents.
